Interview with NBA 2K22: MyTeam Drafts and Interactive Cities Basketball on an Cruise Ship, and High IQ Defense
Erick Boenisch and Mike Wang talk NBA 2K22
NBA 2K22 has just released its cover stars athletes. Candace Parker is the first ever WNBA Cover Star. She will be appearing on a few special editions. To learn more about the new features, I had the opportunity to sit down with Erick Boenisch (executive producer), Mike Wang (gaming director)as well as John Smith (MyTeam producer) to discuss the game’s launch date. Although there wasn’t any gameplay footage, many details were discovered concerning The City, The Neighborhoodand the lessons learnt from last year’s installment.
“We’re making two distinct experiences for NBA 2K22,” Boenisch says. “Our users are the most engaged in MyCareer as well as the following Neighborhood and City modes. This is certainly an area where we’ve made much more effort. The city is brand new in NBA 2K22; it was entirely new in NBA 2LK21 as well, and we’ve gathered lots of lessons from our time developing thatand watching how players reacted to it. The lessons learned were incorporated and applied to 2K22. The all new City it is packed with interactive elements. The new layout of the city is filled with NPCs. The city was empty last yeardue to the fact that there were no NPCs. It was just a few people riding their bikes or walking along.
“The buildings were there , and you could interact with them but nothing actually happened with them. This was part of the plan. It takes time to develop an environment that is vast area like a city. NBA 2K22 is the next major step towards achieving this vision. MyPlayer comes with a brand-new quest system. It offers creative games and a variety of ways to level upand earn rewards. This is a brand new concept of The City. The City’s upcoming generation is yet another aspect we learned from the fans. “I just have one hour,”” they told us. “I would like to get into the action, play a few games for 2K, then take on what we’ve have to do in our lives.” We heard it and will offer matchmaking in the city. There’ll be a number of buildings that you can visit and play a quick match.
Like last year’s version, the game is available only on the latest generation consoles. For Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PCplayers will have access to a lighter version of this game mode that takes place on cruise ships. The ship will host a variety of daily events as it sails closer to landmasses. This will allow you to jump off the ship and shoot hoops across the world. Boenisch stated, “You will start to glimpse islands off from the distance. Every day, the closer you get.” You can get off the boat and travel to various locations across the globe . There’s an event taking place in Egypt and Iceland at the end of the season. It’s just a really cool way to keep the experience fresh and really show our passionate support for the current gen console base, who’s still thriving very strong in our community.”
The preview was focused on the technology and gameplayrather than court gameshowever, there were some fresh details about game play. However, more information will be revealed prior to launch. Wang declared that defense is the thing he is most excited about personally. “The 2K goal was to find balance, improve techniques, and then counter and defend. We’ve completely overhauled our blocking method, steals, body systemand shot contest system. You can do whatever you like as a player, but these are now more skill-based. What you’ll get is an experience that just makes you feel more satisfied. It is a reward for IQ, stick skills, and the ability to play the right way. We’re trying to give the defense the tools to succeed this year. We’re still focused on offense, because there’s a lot to be accomplished there. Withsome of the new skills that we have been adding to the gameThere’s plenty to talk about. Before, animation-based and even dice roll based were more prevalent. These things have since moved to more skill-based elements. If you’re not making the right plays, it’s going to be your fault. Personally, I find it much more enjoyableand more enjoyable – it really rewards the veterans who put in the time and work to become better at their game. It’s still possible to reach us.”
Wang added that NBA 2K22 will have improved mobility this year. It is a system that debuted partially in 2K21 that had specialized style of dribbling, but did not achieve its full potential due to COVID time limitations imposed by COVID.
Smiths claims that “We created the MyTeam] mode throughout the 2K21 season and are seeking another chance to continue the development in 2K22.” “We will be expanding the MyTeam modeand we’re planning to do it right away. MyTeam will also see the return of the draft. The MyTeam draft mode will have the ability to select a complete lineup, and it’s going to have a constantly up-to-date roster of players because as everyone knows that with MyTeam, that roster and the players we put out throughout the year changes much from season one to season twoto season three and beyond. This is an online mode. The rewards you receive from your draft team count part of your ongoing MyTeam collection. Every season, MyTeam will present different challenges and rewards.
“Going into the next two seasons of MyTeamWe’ve all experienced it as a fantastic base for this mode. I can mention and hint at the possibility that we’ll be adding a second feature to the game during one of the seasons. It’s unique and extremely enjoyable, and I cannot wait to share more. Your progress and collection on 2K22 will be carried over. Everything you do on PlayStation 4 will transfer to PlayStation 5. The same applies to Xbox One. And vice versa, all your work on Xbox One will transfer to Xbox Series X or S. This includes your VC wallet, MyTeam points, MyTeam tokens, and balances. The entire process is a progression through the generations.
